Dr. Saju Joseph
Saju Joseph, MD FACS
Dr. Joseph grew up in Southern California before completing his medical school education at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He went on to complete surgical residency training at Harvard University’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center under the leadership of Dr. Josef E. Fischer. During his training, Dr. Joseph won the prestigious Harvard Housestaff and Fellows Teaching award. Through Dr. Fischer’s mentorship, Dr. Joseph had the unique opportunity to complete his fellowship in Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic Surgery at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh under the tutelage of O. James Garden, Regus Professor of Surgery. During his time in Scotland, Dr. Joseph again won a teaching award and developed a love of single malt Scotch.
Since that time, Dr. Joseph has worked in academic surgery doing a wide array of complex surgical oncology and general surgery. He has been involved in translational research in angiogenesis, has written eight book chapters, published numerous papers, and was the editor for a book on Point-of-Care-Ultrasound for First Responders. He continues to be an active member of a number of academic surgical societies, serves on the editorial board of six journals, and is a reviewer for many others. He regularly presents research and gives lectures on surgical, regenerative medicine, and wound care topics both in the United States and around the world.
He has had the opportunity to serve as a visiting professor for the Colombian Association of Surgery and as an advisor to Governor Abbott (Texas) regarding emergency and trauma services. He was the Vice Chair of Surgery at Texas Tech, where he was instrumental in establishing a general surgery residency in the Permian Basin and an acclaimed rural surgery training program as well. Before co-founding Summit Specialty Physicians, Dr. Joseph established the Valley Health Systems Surgery Residency here in Nevada as the Program Director.
When Dr. Joseph is not working, he enjoys playing golf, cooking in his kitchen for his family and friends, and spending time with his wife and daughter.
