What to Expect During and After the Treatment
The injection itself can be uncomfortable, however Dr. Joseph will give you both a short acting and long-acting numbing agent. You will likely not have very much discomfort for up to a week after your injection. The following week, it may feel worse for a few days to a week. Then, between 4-6 weeks, you’ll start to notice an improvement in the area. You are welcome to use any over the counter pain medications at any time during the process (as long as you don’t have any personal contraindications to taking them).
The first two weeks after the injection, we recommend very limited activity and use of a brace or sling for the injected area. You are at a higher risk of injury during this time. A TENS unit may be used after one week. After two weeks, you can begin massage and light activity, but continue to avoid heavy exercise or lifting. At four weeks, if the area feels good, you can begin normal activities and advance to more strenuous movement and exercise.
